AFCON: Sacked Ivory Coast Coach, Jean-Louis Gasset Wishes Nigeria Victory In Final

JEAN-LOUIS GASSET

Former Ivory Coast coach Jean-Louis Gasset, who was sacked as head coach due to the team’s disappointing performance in the group stage, has expressed his support for Nigeria in the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations final.
The French coach’s departure paved the way for his assistant, Emerse Fae, to guide the Elephants to the final.
On Sunday, they will face off against Nigeria at the Olympic Stadium of Ebimpe.
In an interview with Ouest France, Gasset acknowledged that Nigeria holds the upper hand.
He cited their higher ranking in Africa and the presence of Victor Osimhen, the reigning African Player of the Year.
However, Gasset also noted that Ivory Coast has undergone changes, with players like Haller, Adingra, and possibly Nicolas Pepe altering the team dynamics.
Reflecting on his departure, Gasset expressed pride in the Elephants’ progress and the newfound tranquility within the team.
As the Super Eagles aim for their fourth AFCON trophy, Ivory Coast, with two previous championships, seeks to reclaim glory dating back to 2015.
